There are two types of people in this world.
In the first group, there are talented cooks who can just open a fridge whenever they feel like it, see what’s available in there, whip it all together, and present you with a dish-to-dye for. They keep tasting their masterpiece while preparing it, and just know what needs to be added to taste even better. They often experiment and try adding different ingredients, and each little step further improves what is already an amazing meal. And they do it all while singing and dancing around the kitchen, and wearing a fashionable apron. Hosting dinners for them is a piece of cake. As a matter of fact, it’s actually an opportunity for another show-off, and they have no lack of friends who are ready to drop everything just to be able to taste another of their creations.

I’m not one of those people, unfortunately. I firmly belong to the group with no sense, no talent and no clue how to cook. To make a simple dish, I need a recipe, yet I really struggle to follow it (I actually believe this is some type of dyslexia that I was born with). Firstly, I never read the recipe in advance so I am often presented with “now let the dough rest for 12 hours”. Sorry? I am hungry now, I don’t want to wait for 12 hours! Secondly, each time I need to add “powdered onion or powdered garlic” I am caught by a surprise. Who keeps these at home?? I don’t taste my food while cooking, because I am too scared that it tastes not-as-I’ve-imagined. Everytime I invite friends over for a dinner, I am nervous and have a pizza-delivery number on hand. And no, I don’t dance or sing or wear cute aprons while cooking either!

But I enjoy good food and would love to be able to create it on my own. I love having my friends over for dinner. I love buying fresh produce from farmers markets. I love experimenting and trying new things. I love cook books. And I love food blogs and always wanted to have one on my own. So here I am. So what if I am not a Michelin Star Chef!
Obviously, this is not a typical food blog. You won’t find any sophisticated recipes that require exotic ingredients or cooking utensils that I have never even heard about. I also avoid dishes that I can’t pronounce, and I avoid recipes that are whole page long. You won’t even find photos of beautifully styled food. If you are looking for that I would suggest Teresamisu, Sunday Morning Pancakes or Pinch of Yum for example.
What you will find in this blog are my trials and my errors and sometimes my successes (yes, every now and then I actually manage to create something actually delicious!). Maybe you will find it funny. Maybe you will even find it encouraging. You are welcome to share your tips and suggestions with me. And you are welcome to share the posts with anyone you know who might be equally struggling when it comes to their kitchen time.
So let’s do this!
